Overview
Meteorologist 2 - Spectrum News (NMT330) – Are you fascinated by the dangerous and unpredictable world of weather news? Spectrum News is seeking a Meteorologist to deliver forecasts that keep viewers safe and informed. In this role, you’ll primarily focus on weather forecasting and, in keeping with Spectrum News’s “inform not alarm” motto, provide easy-to-understand weather updates. You will need extensive knowledge of severe weather and will relay accurate weather information to keep local communities safe. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that creates compelling, timely, and accurate content across traditional and digital platforms.

What you’ll bring to Spectrum News
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Forecasting and presenting weathercasts – 5+ years; Severe weather coverage – 5+ years
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology; AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment
- Technical skills: Knowledge of synoptic meteorology, tropical and radar; working knowledge of TV weather graphics systems
- Skills: Demonstrated enthusiasm in handling breaking weather news and high-stress situations
- Abilities: Ability to anticipate situations, meet strict deadlines, and manage multiple priorities
- Travel: Must be open to travel to cover important neighborhood stories and engage with the community
- Schedule: Able to work different or longer shifts due to breaking news and severe weather, including weekends and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- May be required to lift up to five pounds
Working Conditions
- Works inside a climate-controlled environment year-round; field duties may be assigned as necessary
- Open newsroom with semi-noisy environment
- Communicates in person, by phone and by email
- Uses studio, weather forecasting and newsgathering equipment, computers and related technology
