The Idaho Department of Labor supports individuals through career transitions, determines benefit eligibility, connects employers with workers and oversees tax and labor law compliance. The Unemployment Insurance (UI) Division at the Idaho Department of Labor has an exciting opportunity for two full-time positions for the UI Claims Adjudicator. The successful applicants will work with the adjudication team, adjudicating a caseload and determining eligibility for unemployed workers. These positions are instrumental in administering benefits for UI claims, managing UI cases, and ensuring compliance with laws. The ideal candidates will have an analytical approach to problem solving, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and on a team. These positions are located in Boise, and may be eligible to telework within the area, according to current policy. Preference may be given to applicants who are fluent in Spanish and English, however this is not a requirement of this position. Responsibilities

  • Unemployment Insurance (UI): Conduct in-depth fact-finding interviews with claimants, employers and other interested parties.
  • Record personal and eligibility information.
  • Analyze documents, evidence and statements provided by interested parties.
  • Determine eligibility for programs, services or benefits by applying laws, regulations, policies and precedents.
  • Issue written eligibility determinations.
  • Authorize continued payment of UI benefits.
  • Prepare for and participate in administrative or legal hearings and provide testimony as an expert witness.
  • Case Management: Review and interpret regulations and statutes and ensure accurate fact-finding and documentation to support application of laws.
  • Review benefit claims and supporting documentation to identify potential fraud, eligibility or overpayment issues.
  • Review, correct or overturn inappropriate eligibility determinations.
  • Communication: Provide relevant, correct and complete labor market and employment information.
  • Construct individualized professional written determinations and correspondence.
  • Explain laws, rules and regulations to customers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of Idaho and Federal statutes, regulations and policies pertaining to Unemployment Insurance benefits, typically gained by at least three months experience understanding and applying those statutes, regulations and policies.
  • Experience assisting emotional, difficult or confrontational individuals from varying socio/economic/cultural backgrounds, typically gained by at least one year of work experience.
  • Experience conducting in-depth fact-finding interviews and documenting findings, typically gained by one to two years of work experience interviewing others and documenting findings.
  • Experience interpreting and applying regulations or policies and explaining them to others, typically gained by one to two years of experience.
  • Experience determining eligibility for programs and preparing written eligibility decisions, typically gained by one to two years of experience.
  • Experience preparing written communication, typically gained by one to two years of experience.
  • Experience performing data input and retrieval within Unemployment Insurance computer programs, typically gained by three to six months of experience.
