Temporary Part-time Writing Center Tutoring Assistant
Salary: $15.00 per hour
Campus Location: Walters State Community College - Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to assist the Writing Center Director with management and coverage of the lab and with student tutoring sessions.
Essential Job Functions
- Tutor students in writing for multiple disciplines through in-person and online sessions.
- Monitor and assist student tutors during walk-in sessions and with online feedback.
- Assist the English Learning Lab Technician with daily management and tutoring processes.
- Provide support to faculty through materials development and class visits.
- Assist other divisional support staff on occasion with various tasks including work orders, print requests, and requisitions.
- Provide back-up coverage for division’s reception area.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- An Associate’s degree or higher in English or in another academic discipline with demonstrated success as a student in English courses
- Experience in tutoring
- Ability to use a computer with internet capabilities and a printer
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in English
- Experience in writing instruction
- Experience with online course instruction

Leadership & Supervisory
The employee in this position is responsible for directing and monitoring student workers within the English Learning Lab. The incumbent performs most tasks without the consultation of others; resources, guidelines, or a supervisor are available for consultation as needed. Work is checked largely towards the completion of objectives.
Environment & Working Conditions
Temperature-controlled environment with occasional fluctuations and good lighting; moderate noise level; regular interruptions.
Physical Demands
- Requires extended periods of time working on a computer, staring at a monitor, and using keyboard and mouse.
- Utilizes telephone and email for regular communications.
