Overview

The Special Programs, Evaluations, Assessments & Response (SPEAR) team is seeking an experienced User Design (UX) Designer to join our Security Engineering team. You will help develop sophisticated user interfaces for security assessment platforms and automated evaluation systems that protect Amazon's global infrastructure. This role blends front end development and user design, requiring collaboration with security professionals across Amazon's facilities. This role is remotely based and requires approximately 10% travel.

Key responsibilities

  • Design user experiences from research and strategy to prototyping and testing.
  • Conduct in-depth user research through interviews, usability testing, and analytics to understand user needs and pain points.
  • Create detailed user journeys, information architecture, wireframes, and high-fidelity interactive prototypes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, and stakeholders, to ensure designs meet business requirements and technical feasibility.
  • Champion a user-centered design approach and advocate for the needs of users across the organization.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest UX trends, best practices, and design tools, applying innovative solutions to complex design problems.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the overall UX of products and services through ongoing user feedback and performance analysis.
  • Effectively communicate design decisions and rationale to both technical and non-technical audiences.

About the team

The Special Projects, Evaluations, Assessments, and Response (SPEAR) team consists of dedicated security professionals with subject matter expertise in their respective fields. SPEAR specializes in identifying and providing recommendations for challenging, unique, and out-of-the-box security issues. SPEAR conducts deep dives of implemented physical, technical, and wireless security measures to ensure AWS customers’ information is safe and secure. SPEAR supports the OS2 Security Engineering team in building and managing highly scalable, distributed systems, focusing on hard problems so stakeholders can focus on their business.

Basic Qualifications

  • Fluent in best practices for information architecture and interaction design, user-centered design processes, and strong knowledge of user experience principles and techniques.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team and directly with developers for implementation of designs.
  • Experience collaborating with security teams to design security tools.
  • Strong practical knowledge of user-centered design methodologies, usability principles, web-based information architecture, and design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Similar to Basic qualifications; additional emphasis on applying UX research insights to security tools and interfaces.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $106,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $184,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
