FY26: Media Assistant, Westbrook ES, 4 hrs/10mos (ad closes 9/30/25) at Montgomery County Public Schools. This role supports and promotes the vision and mission of School Library Media Programs and helps create a warm and welcoming media center environment for students, staff, and the school community. Job information: 4 hours per day, 10 months, part-time schedule, located at Westbrook Elementary School, Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities
Work directly with students on instruction pertaining to information literacy skills, research skills, accessing online services, and access to library resources. Assist with management of the school-wide library media catalog and daily routine operations of the media center. Provide work direction to student aides and parent volunteers and help in the orientation and training of new media assistants when applicable. Learn and communicate current technology to students and staff, demonstrating technological aptitude and the ability to learn current technology independently. Perform media center duties, be detail-oriented, and assume responsibility for routine operations of the media center. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Possesses strong interpersonal skills suited for customer service and effective communication; demonstrates a growth mindset in serving students. Flexible, team-oriented, and able to adapt to the needs of students and the school community. Willingness to learn about current literature, library organization, and the library collection; ability to locate print or digital information as needed. Ability to adapt to new technologies and become proficient with computer applications (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, graphic presentation programs, e-mail, online ordering) and to impart this knowledge to students and staff. Ability to operate and provide problem-solving for computers, printers, copiers, and audiovisual equipment; ability to acquire such skills. Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn library media center procedures and techniques; ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a high-interruption environment. Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and meet the seven core competencies of the SSPGS (Supporting Services Professional Growth System). Education, Training, and Experience
High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred or completion of 30 semester hours of college coursework and/or one year of instructional experience if no associate degree. Experience using computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, Internet) and experience working or volunteering in a library environment preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered if they provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
