Essential Responsibilities: Develops teamwork within the Information Systems Team. Develops teamwork within the Telecommunications Team. Responsible for developing effective working relationships with all potential customers of the Health System. Answers and routes outside calls per the Employee Skill Assessment. Answers and screens in-house calls for doctors and staff; processes requests for pages. Answers telephone promptly and courteously, identifying self and department. If assistance is needed, aids patients, family members, and staff in placing calls. Pages authorized personnel as requested. Pages Emergency Hospital Codes and stat calls efficiently. Notifies personnel and departments of Emergency Hospital Codes. Secures when notified. Instructs staff on how to use beepers; replaces beepers following established departmental procedure. Monitors and annunciates the Fire Alarm System and the Emergency Notification Alarms. Monitors and annunciates as a back-up to Engineering, the Medical Gas Alarm System. Maintains/Updates the Amcom Database for all areas noted on the Employee Skill Assessment to ensure accurate information is provided to callers. Maintains phone number of hospitals within the area. Updates databases upon receipt of new listings for campuses; physician's offices; residences; in-house extensions; beeper numbers and cell phone numbers for staff members. Distributes mail; orders and picks up supplies for department. Reads, understands and communicates pertinent information prior to and end of the assigned shift. Reviews and maintains knowledge of appropriate Emergency/Departmental policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications: Education High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience 1 year PBX experience including medical technology, disaster and emergency codes; and handling large volumes of internal and external calls. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Ability to communicate calmly, effectively, and continuously with callers on a daily basis. Possess interviewing and listening skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
