Overview

Part Time Technical Editor for an aerospace client. 12 months or longer, with hours varying between 15 - 20 hours per week. Travel (10%) and overtime may apply. Pay is $24.80/hr on W2 (DOE).

Base pay range: $24.80/hr - $24.80/hr

Position: Part Time Technical Editor

Travel: Yes – Overtime and travel (10%).

Hours: 15 - 20 hours per week; overtime possible, travel may require weekend hours if visiting customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Join a high performing team to develop technical documentation for advanced military sensors and systems, integrated on platforms.
  • Edit technical documents to ensure compliance with spelling, grammar, punctuation, style, layout and specification requirements.
  • Collaborate with task/team leads, writers, engineers, and instructors to publish and deliver documents.
  • Develop templates based on style guides to adhere to military specifications and standards of technical writing.
  • Perform desktop publishing tasks for all program technical data products and publish materials in hardcopy and electronic formats.

Basic Qualifications for level 2

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance (or higher).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, 2-5 years’ technical editing experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in creating and modifying templates, style sheets, and formats.
  • Experience with structured (HTML, SGML, or XML, and S1000 or DITA) content.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100) specification.
  • Self-motivated with good problem solving and organization skills.

Basic Qualifications for level 3

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, 5-10 years’ technical editing experience, 3 years’ experience with Master’s.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in creating and modifying templates, style sheets, and formats.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience editing page-based and structured (HTML, SGML, and XML, and S1000D and DITA) content.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with structured technical data.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent problem solving and organization skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance (or higher).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with structured authoring applications, such as MadCap, FrameMaker, or Arbortext.
  • Experience with Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100).
  • Member of the Society for Technical Communicators (STC).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
