What You'll Be Doing
The Facility and Field Services division of Wake County General Services is looking for applicants that are skilled in sign and graphics design, fabrication and installation to fill the role of our Sign/Graphics Fabricator.
Primary Duties:
- Performs skilled work to design, fabricate, install and maintain signage that includes street name signs and corporate signage
- Operates complex equipment including computer controlled router (CNC), vinyl plotters, laptop and handheld computers, GPS devices, metal bending and breaking equipment, various powered and hand tools, laminators and pressure applicators
- Gathers and maintains information for databases used in the Road Sign program, using ArcGIS software as well as Microsoft Access and Excel
- Works with Wake County GIS to maintain and troubleshoot issues
- Participates in complex design projects, utilizes AutoCad and Microsoft Visio to create files and graphics for life safety needs, including evacuation plans, renovations and FM Interact
- Reviews fire safety interactive layers and participates in fire inspections of county facilities
- Participates in design and implementation of digital signage content using design software
- Creates and produces signage using Flexisign and Enroute software for design and production
- Installs signage in compliance with county standards, federal and state guidelines utilizing the Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Americans with Disabilities Act and other federal and state guidelines
- Creates specific designs and graphic overlays for presentation to county departments, other municipalities and vendors
- Uses design software to re-format if necessary various designs and renderings for transmission via e-mail, web or server to appropriate parties for approval and or fabrication or promotion
- Completes administrative tasks such as time and material entry on work orders using the online databases provided by the county: Dayforce and IBM Maximo
- Updates files, reports and documents and corresponds with other municipalities and counties as needed
- Interacts with other county, federal and state employees as well as the general public; and is a liaison for the county at all times
- Assist with the response during and after any adverse weather events and emergency response operations

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- High school diploma or GED
- Three years of experience in digital layout, sign fabrication, or installation
- A valid driver's license and a "safe" driving record required.
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
- Additional training and or education in sign design, production and installation past the three year minimum
- Thorough knowledge of current ADA, MUTCD and FHWA guidelines
- Experience with CNC operation and engraving design and production
How Will We Know You\'re \'The One\'?
- Ability to operate sign graphics fabrication equipment proficiently
- Knowledge and proficiency with sign design, layout and fabrication
- Experience with AutoCad, Microsoft Visio, Flexisign, Photoshop and other design software
- Ability to work in an outdoor environment in extreme heat and cold conditions for extended periods of time and respond to adverse weather events
- Ability to gather, enter and analyze data used to populate mandated asset management databases
- Ability to comprehend and apply applications of ratios proportions and measurements
- Knowledge of general workplace safety practices and PPE to comply with OSHA requirements
- Ability to use good judgement to carry out detailed instructions from a supervisor
- Ability to identify problems and determine possible solutions and actively work to resolve the issues with sound judgement and communication
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures
- Ability to work independently in meeting deadlines and budgets
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, officials, peers, and the public
