Position Summary
This position is responsible for creating content for the Communications Department and works as a team member in support of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians. Level II acts as a Team Lead when needed and handles highly complex content projects, serving as a resource to others. Level I handles moderately complex work and Level II may lead projects and coordinate multiple contributors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Within Communications, duties may include multimedia content creation to support department operations. The role may focus on writing or visual media, with flexibility to support other areas as needed.
Level I – Writing Focus
- Develop written articles, ideas for photos/videos, and contribute to editorial calendar.
- Create written content for channels (website, social media, newsletters, press releases, etc.).
Level I – Visual Media Focus
- Create multimedia content (photos, graphics, long/short videos, streaming videos).
- Assist with posting to Tribe website and social media (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) in coordination with the Visual Media Manager.
Common Duties
- Research and respond to information requests; route or resolve as needed.
- Enter event information into calendars as needed.
- Assist with media relations and events under direction; contribute to crisis communications as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Level II – Additional Duties
- Plan and implement complex content projects (e.g., multi-day multimedia series); may lead writers and coordinate content tasks under supervision.
- Act as team lead for public relations or other projects involving multiple staff or contractors; coordinate work plans and vendors as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities but may act as a team lead for specific projects.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Level I: HS Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field strongly preferred. Strong writing skills and/or strong video/photography skills; digital editing and social media knowledge a plus. Ability to write effective content for website and social media. Audio/visual experience a plus.
- Level II: Level I requirements plus at least two years of content production experience. May be hired as Level II with demonstrated ability to perform Level II duties. Internal advancement possible after two years with demonstrated performance.
- General: Proficiency in word processing; ability to use cameras and social media; knowledge of AP style preferred; interest in web-based communications; willingness to learn Tribal culture; sensitivity to Elders, youth and Tribe members; ability to maintain confidentiality; ability to work long hours and variable schedule.
Language Skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business instructions; follow oral instructions; write news and feature stories with proper English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Mathematical Skills Ability to perform basic math: add, subtract, multiply, and divide; compute rates and percentages.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense and solve problems with multiple variables.
Licenses, Certifications
Must have and maintain valid Washington State driver’s license with proof of insurance. Driver’s license restrictions must not prevent compliance with Tribe Vehicle Use Policy or driving GSA vehicle. Must have drone pilot’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Reliable transportation. Strong written and oral communication; attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and set priorities.
