Position Summary
The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and strives to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. The Staff Nurse I engages with patients and families to advocate for the patient, develops a patient education plan, responds to changing needs, and collaborates with the health care team to promote effective patient care. This role participates in organizational, departmental, and shared leadership activities and supports department and unit goals in daily behavior.
Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and input from the patient’s family.
- Collaborates with other health care team members to promote effective patient care.
- Verifies and implements orders from physicians/advanced practice providers; documents accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Engages with patient/family to develop an appropriate educational plan.
- Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to patient needs.
- Delegates appropriate tasks to support personnel per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act; provides support and feedback.
- Advocates for patients, families, the community, and the nursing profession.
- Integrates knowledge, evidence-based practice, and current standards to provide quality patient care.
- Assumes the role of Charge Nurse when assigned, using appropriate resources and tools.
- Collaborates with other nurses to promote learning experiences for staff and students.
- Serves as a preceptor or resource to nursing and support staff and students.
- Engages in ongoing professional development and identifies learning needs.
- Other duties as assigned and participation in special projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
- Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit-specific certifications.
- Current advanced cardiac life support, or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Operating Room experience.
