Overview

Product Designer/Sr Product Designer, UX role within American Airlines Technology Strategy & User Experience (UX) team. You’ll influence product and design decisions from inception through implementation, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver value across enterprise. The team focuses on user experience for customer and employee facing applications and standards to scale design across the enterprise.

What You'll Do

  • Influence outcomes and Product Owner decisions based on UX best practices, design principles and research, using agile methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to implement solutions effectively and efficiently.
  • Collect, analyze, present and act on feedback; manage changes to UX deliverables.
  • Present work clearly to stakeholders using storytelling and strong presentation skills.
  • Provide timely status updates (work remaining, issues, risks) using project management tools (Rally, Jira, Aha!, etc.).
  • Communicate effectively with all team members to get work done.
  • Design the visual style, interface and interaction flow of applications that adhere to design standards and a design system.
  • Develop diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups and prototypes with systems thinking and information architecture in mind.
  • Create research strategies and usability test plans, scripts and scenarios; formulate and test hypotheses during design iterations.
  • Use research techniques (heuristic reviews, user interviews, remote unmoderated and in-person testing) to assess ease-of-use and comprehension.
  • Lead end-to-end UX design processes from ideation through execution.
  • Mentor and guide other Designers to foster growth and collaboration.
  • Ensure designs are responsive and adaptive for desktop and mobile platforms.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in HCI, human factors engineering, computer science, visual design, library sciences or related discipline, or equivalent experience or training
  • 3+ years of experience as a UX practitioner with background in user experience design, interaction design or similar
  • Experience working closely with Engineers from inception through implementation in an agile environment
  • Experience collaborating effectively across disciplines, product lines, roles, geographical and time zone boundaries
  • Knowledge and proficiency using remote unmoderated testing tools and moderated testing platforms
  • Experience in responsive, adaptive and accessible designs
  • Experience with design for mobile app (iOS and Android), desktop and web applications

Preferred Qualifications - Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master's degree in related discipline, or equivalent experience or training
  • 5+ years of experience as a UX practitioner with background in user experience design, interaction design or similar
  • Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0+ AA), localization and inclusive design
  • Ability to adopt and contribute to design systems and promote standardization across the enterprise
  • Experience working in Product and DesignOps to meet evolving organizational needs

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Strong skills in modern design and prototyping tools (Figma, Adobe CC, etc.)
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other frontend development languages
  • Analytical skills for complex data problems and sustainable solutions
  • Strong organizational skills for labeling, classifying and building flows and wireframes
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and communicate with non-technical users
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Strong user-centered design principles and awareness of web/app design trends
  • Familiarity with emerging tech such as generative AI and spatial computing
  • Proficiency with project management tools (Rally, Jira, Aha!, etc.)
  • Storytelling and presentation skills to communicate design decisions
