Vice President of Development & Marketing
EdVoice Institute is seeking a results-driven, entrepreneurial Vice President of Development & Marketing (VPDM) to enable the next level of impact. The VPDM will oversee fundraising and grantmaking, marketing and communications, network activation, and infrastructure building. They will design and implement a bold strategy that attracts, engages, and galvanizes a diverse network of donors, elected officials, and advocates. The VPDM will manage a core team of two, including the Director of Marketing & Communications and the Manager of Development and Strategic Initiatives, with potential to grow as organizational needs evolve. Partnering closely with the CEO, the VPDM will drive efforts to raise $2 million for EdVoice and $2.3 million for EdVoice Institute, with a plan to scale these budgets annually.

EdVoice is a nonprofit education advocacy organization reshaping public education in California so that students from low-income communities have futures filled with opportunity. EdVoice Institute develops policy solutions to improve learning statewide and leads lobbying and campaigning to advance those policies. EdVoice also provides strategic political contributions through its PAC to leaders who prioritize students from low-income communities.
The Opportunity
EdVoice Institute has developed an agenda of policy recommendations across five key pillars that, if passed and implemented, will transform the education system by 2040. To attain this vision, EdVoice and EdVoice Institute need greater funding to sustain and expand key initiatives, raise awareness of policy priorities, and strengthen our community of supporters.
The VPDM will oversee fundraising and marketing, work closely with the CEO, and help raise and manage budgets for EdVoice and EdVoice Institute in coordination with leadership and the Director of Financial Management & Operations.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of a fundraising plan to raise $2M for EdVoice and $2.3M for EdVoice Institute, with the goal of scaling budgets over the next 2–3 years
Collaborate with the CEO to pursue new fundraising sources and initiatives, develop fundraising collateral, and support high-level solicitations
Build a system for identifying and cultivating prospective donors, strengthening the pipeline and retaining high-capacity funders
Establish a stewardship program that connects donors to EdVoice’s impact through updates, events, and engagement opportunities
Develop and implement strategies to secure grants, including researching opportunities, coordinating with the Director of Marketing & Communications, and preparing proposals
Partner with the CEO and Director of Financial Management & Operations to ensure sustainable budgeting and revenue projections
Marketing, Communications & Community Engagement (30%)
Spearhead an integrated brand and engagement strategy to position EdVoice and EdVoice Institute as a trusted voice for education policy reform
Produce marketing collateral such as annual reports, email campaigns, and digital advertising while managing the budget for broad reach and impact
Collaborate with the Policy Team to translate policy issues for diverse audiences and activate supporters to influence lawmakers
Design and implement community-focused digital giving strategies to diversify the donor base
Execute a media relations plan to drive targeted coverage and strengthen EdVoice’s reputation
Forge partnerships with education advocacy organizations to promote coalition-building
Infrastructure, Data & Insights (10%)
Streamline fundraising CRM processes for gift processing and donor recognition
Design donor segmentation for engagement and incentives based on giving and political engagement
Coordinate with team members to strengthen data integrity, analyze fundraising results, and guide decisions
Prepare and submit grant performance reports to meet funder requirements
Lead research on philanthropic and marketing trends and emerging tools to innovate systems and practices
Ideal Candidate Profile
10+ years of experience in fundraising, marketing, business development, or strategic partnerships, with at least 3 years managing a team
Strong commitment to EdVoice’s mission of reshaping public education for students from low-income communities
Knowledge of evolving philanthropy and marketing trends in education, nonprofit, political, and advocacy sectors
Track record of successful digital fundraising or marketing campaigns
Experience with CRM software and refining organizational infrastructure for efficiency and impact
Analytical skills to track, analyze, and report on donor and community initiatives
Strategic yet hands-on approach with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Strong collaboration and cross-department relationship-building
Humility, adaptability, and willingness to learn
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range is $170k - $195k, commensurate with experience. Benefits include:

Fully vested employer 1:1 match of employee 401(k) contributions up to 4%
Reimbursement of remote workspace up to $500

This is a full-time position based in California. The work environment is currently remote, with 10%–20% travel expected to meet with the full team and key partners.
