Overview
The Department of English at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing with a record of publishing in fiction and poetry. Beginning August 2026.
Responsibilities
- Teach two courses per semester in graduate and undergraduate fiction, poetry, and hybrid forms workshops.
- Advise MFA student theses and participate in service committees.
Qualifications
- Publications in reputable venues in both fiction and poetry.
- MFA or PhD by date of hire (August 10, 2026).
- Evidence of teaching excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Single-authored book of fiction or poetry published with a reputable national press.
- Strong publication record in both fiction and poetry.
- Experience teaching and advising graduate students.
- Commitment to student growth and professionalism, for example through organizing student readings and other student-centered events.
