Overview

The Department of English at Virginia Tech invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing with a record of publishing in fiction and poetry. Beginning August 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Teach two courses per semester in graduate and undergraduate fiction, poetry, and hybrid forms workshops.
  • Advise MFA student theses and participate in service committees.

Qualifications

  • Publications in reputable venues in both fiction and poetry.
  • MFA or PhD by date of hire (August 10, 2026).
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Single-authored book of fiction or poetry published with a reputable national press.
  • Strong publication record in both fiction and poetry.
  • Experience teaching and advising graduate students.
  • Commitment to student growth and professionalism, for example through organizing student readings and other student-centered events.
