This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee external communications strategy and daily execution for Blue Origin’s rocket launches and related business units.
  • Manage company-wide crisis communications and high-profile news announcements and events.
  • Maintain strong relationships with news outlets, reporters, and influencers.
  • Lead strategy, messaging, tactics, and execution for rocket launches, related efforts, and company crises as an individual contributor; coordinate with marketing, PR, social media, and employee communications teams.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive media relations launch strategies, messaging, and tactics for launches and crises.
  • Arrange and oversee media events, press conferences, and briefings; act as primary contact and spokesperson for media inquiries.
  • Generate proactive story ideas and pitches; create and edit content for press releases, articles, captions, internal memos, and related assets.
  • Establish crisis communication policies, prepare spokespersons, and ensure consistent communication across teams.
  • Monitor media and analytics to measure impact and guide ongoing optimization.
  • Collaborate with social media and digital marketing teams to share Blue Origin’s mission and accomplishments.
  • Partner with Internal, Marketing, and Sales teams to ensure messaging alignment and brand voice consistency.
  • Stay informed about industry developments, AI and digital marketing trends, and relevant privacy and legal considerations.
  • Engage with external vendors, agencies, customers, and partners to optimize results and manage budget.

Qualifications & Skills

  • On-site and in-office position with occasional travel; preferred offices in Kent, WA, or Merritt Island, FL.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or public relations preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in public relations or journalism.
  • Proven track record in managing high-profile brand, sales campaigns, PR efforts, and crisis communications in large high-tech companies.
  • Experience using data and analytics to drive storytelling and results.
  • Passion for space exploration and alignment with Blue Origin’s mission.
  • Strong understanding of journalism, marketing, and social media at the intersection with space and high-tech industries.
  • Strong media network and exceptional writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; effective cross-team collaboration.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a focus on achieving results and maintaining a positive culture.
