About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and visionary
Director of Sweater Design
to lead our knitwear design function across multiple brands within our group. This role is ideal for a
true sweater expert
with a refined aesthetic, deep technical expertise, and the ability to deliver compelling collections that resonate across diverse market segments, including
special markets and off-price channels .
Responsibilities
Creative Leadership
Drive the creative direction of sweaters across multiple brands and channels, delivering elevated, trend-right product.
Lead and mentor a team of 7 designers, fostering innovation, collaboration, and growth.
Ensure brand consistency while tailoring product for diverse customer segments, including special markets.
Design & Development
Oversee the full design lifecycle: yarn and stitch development, silhouette creation, fit, and first tech packs.
Partner with technical design, production, and factory teams to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and superior product execution.
Anticipate trends, new yarn technologies, and innovations in knitwear construction.
Collaboration & Communication
Act as the key liaison between design, production, and technical partners to ensure alignment from concept through delivery.
Present design concepts to senior leadership and cross-functional teams with clarity and conviction.
Maintain strong factory and vendor relationships to achieve both creative and cost objectives.
Operational Excellence
Manage calendars, workflow, and deliverables to ensure timely development across multiple brands and channels.
Balance creativity with business needs, addressing pricing, margin, and production timelines.
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of progressive knitwear design experience, with a strong focus on sweaters.
Proven leadership managing and inspiring a design team.
Expertise in yarn sourcing, stitch development, silhouette creation, and fit refinement.
Strong knowledge of technical design processes and the ability to partner with factories and production teams effectively.
Exceptional taste level, trend awareness, and ability to balance creativity with commercial success.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at managing multiple priorities across brands.
Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
Salary
$175,000-$200,000
