Role
We have a near-term need for a NATO Command Editor to provide onsite support in Norfolk, VA. The position supports editing and advisory work for ACT documents, training opportunities for ACT personnel, and coaching for Senior Foreign Office Government Offices (FOGOs) as needed.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the HQ SACT Internal Communication Quality and Performance Advisor under the supervision of the Task Management Office within the Office of the Chief of Staff.
- Edit ACT documents to ensure professionalism, clarity, and readability; advise individuals and teams on effective writing processes and document production.
- Update the ACT Style Guide and develop writing advice materials; advertise and post guidance on Engage and other NATO platforms.
- Contribute to training: teach the Strategies for Writing Course and, as needed, develop and teach a Presentation Skills course.
- Provide writing or speaking coaching to FOGOs and monitor Tasker products (TT+) in coordination with Military Assistants, Task Management Office, and Tasker Action Officers.
- Attend relevant administration meetings (e.g., weekly EA and MA meetings) and brief groups on the ACT Style Guide, templates, and editing support (including Newcomers’ Orientation and TT+ Training).
- Continuously improve/modify courses based on organizational requirements and perform other tasks as assigned by the COTR.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a writing-intensive field.
- Active NATO or National Secret (or higher) security clearance.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience in providing editing support.
- Demonstrated experience in creating/writing/developing high level documents and briefs.
- Excellent skills in oral and written English (native speaker or equivalent level, 4444).
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience teaching writing skills, including to non-native English speakers—classroom and individual instruction.
- Knowledge and experience with professional public speaking skills.
- Knowledge and experience with course design.
- Able to work fully onsite based on client needs.
