Overview

LIBRARIAN I (ADULT SERVICES) – Opening December 2025

The New City Library in Rockland County, New York, is seeking a candidate for the following position.

Responsibilities

  • Professional library work within the Adult Services Department.
  • Traditional reference work and reader’s advisory.
  • Computer instruction for patrons.
  • Collection development, particularly in Adult fiction and mystery collections.
  • Leading book discussion groups and providing customer service.

Qualifications

  • Accredited Master’s degree in library science.
  • New York State Public Librarian Certification.
  • High-level competency in collection development, readers advisory, and book discussion leadership.
  • Working knowledge of Koha ILS is a plus.
  • Ability to teach basic computer skills and troubleshoot basic technology problems.
  • Dedication to public service.
  • Ability to speak and write effectively and clearly.

Work Details

  • 35 hours per week with some evenings and weekends.
  • Work under limited supervision with assignments governed by established procedures, practices, timelines, and policies.
  • Performance reviewed for quality, volume, timeliness, and adherence to procedures and policies.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $63,951 – $78,652.
  • Benefits include membership in the New York State Retirement System, optional health insurance (including dental), a 403(b) plan, the NYS Deferred Compensation 457(b) plan, and paid vacation, personal, and sick leave.
