Position: Music Therapist (BM)

Position Summary: A Board-Certified Music Therapist with leadership abilities, communication, and problem-solving skills who, with minimum supervision, coordinates interventions with the treatment team to meet patient needs in a quality, cost-effective manner. The Music Therapist provides age- and developmentally-appropriate music therapy groups and establishes behavioral treatment goals in alignment with the Behavioral Health Hospital’s philosophy and objectives. The Music Therapist supports an organizational culture for Service Excellence and reports to the Director of Clinical Services.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Design and provide music therapy interventions based on therapeutic goals to address patient needs (e.g., self-care, adjustment to life changes, cognitive functioning, self-esteem, communication, impulse control). Collaborate with a multidisciplinary treatment team to establish goals for music therapy, considering patient needs and the overall therapeutic program. Document evaluations, treatment plans, case summaries, progress notes, and other patient reports. Observe, monitor, and document patient reactions and progress. Direct and provide daily operations of Behavioral Health Therapeutic Alternative services. Demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units serving varied populations (children, adolescents, adults, older adults, and dual diagnoses). Attend and participate in weekly treatment plan meetings.

Qualifications

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required:

  1. Bachelor’s in Music Therapy. Currently Board Certified as a Music Therapist (MT-BC) or agrees to obtain certification within 6 months
  2. 2+ years of work experience in music therapy with a mental health population
  3. Proficient with playing guitar, piano, drums, autoharp, and other instruments
  4. Excellent singing abilities
  5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  6. Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  7. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association on hire or within 30 days of start date and maintained throughout employment. Must be obtained prior to providing patient care

Physical and Sensory Requirements

  1. Ability to read and write in English
  2. Ability to speak and hear for discussions with employees and peers
  3. Ability to cope with and remain calm under stress
  4. Ability to respond to pages
  5. Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
  6. Bending and lifting (5–10 lbs), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling
  7. Ability to understand and interpret financial data
