Publishing Operations Coordinator/Manager, Henry Holt — Macmillan
We are seeking a Coordinator OR Manager to join our team at Henry Holt & Company. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and experienced in managing the operational lifecycle of our catalog, including 45-60 frontlist titles annually and a backlist of more than 3,000 titles. The role requires a blend of operational expertise and an understanding of the publishing workflow from acquisition to publication. The position reports to the Associate Publisher and works with editorial, production, marketing, publicity, and art to ensure a seamless and efficient workflow.
The role offers the opportunity to join a close-knit, forward-looking team under new leadership as Holt grows its title count and broadens its list across categories with emphasis on editorial quality, ambition, and integrated publicity and marketing.
What You’ll Do
- Workflow and Calendar Management: Oversee and optimize the full publishing lifecycle for frontlist and select backlist titles. Create and manage seasonal calendars, set agendas for imprint-wide meetings, and maintain publishing schedules.
- Inventory and Financial Management: Work with the Associate Publisher to oversee inventory for frontlist and backlist, attend weekly P&B meetings, and manage remainder processes.
- Data and Metadata Management: Use data to inform decisions, track KPIs, and prepare reports on production timelines and costs. Oversee launch and tip sheets for quality and sales compliance. Collaborate with the central metadata team on regular metadata audits of Holt titles.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Coordinate with editorial, managing editorial, art, publicity, and marketing on schedules and promotional materials. Manage internal publishing processes (cover reveals, book club rollouts, embargoes, stickering) and align teams on goals and timelines.
- Rights Management: Oversee galley quantities and distribution. Manage permissions licenses and liaise with Legal/Contracts on reversions and cancellations.
What You’ll Bring
- 3+ years of experience in publishing operations or a related field, preferably within a commercial trade publisher.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong command of publishing-specific software and systems (e.g., Biblio, Cognos, Therefore, RSuite, CoreSource) and project management tools.
- Exceptional project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; proactive in resolving operational bottlenecks with a calm, resourceful approach.
- Flexible and adaptable mindset to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Salary: Based on level and years of experience, $60,000–$80,000 annually.
