Overview
Children’s Healing Art Project (CHAP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the healing power of art to children and families facing medical and mental health challenges. CHAP’s team works with families in hospitals and other community organizations. Our partners include OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and Shriner’s Hospital for Children. CHAP offers the Art Club program for children with medical challenges and CHAP in a Box deliveries for families outside the Portland area. CHAP relies on a governing board and a dedicated team of volunteers who provide essential support.
Role Description
This part-time Studio Coordinator role involves coordinating daily activities at the CHAP studio. Responsibilities include managing studio schedules, organizing art supplies, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and liaising with teaching artists and volunteers. The role also involves planning art sessions, assisting with events, and fostering relationships with participants and their families. This role takes place in the art studio and, on occasion, within the metro area.
Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and manage the Art Club program, including generating ideas for weekly experiences and communicating with parents; procure materials for projects and experiences.
- Coordinate and manage Art Club On-The-Go programs with volunteers, including project ideation, billing (if necessary), and event management.
- Conceive and run Summer and Winter workshops.
- Plan and execute Open Studio sessions (monthly).
- Coordinate CIAB-Box distribution and manage the distribution list.
- Coordinate Art Parties with parents, plan the event, ensure volunteer support, and handle billing as needed.
Qualifications
- Passion for the arts and a commitment to supporting children’s well-being through creative expression.
- Experience working with kids.
- Nonprofit or educational setting experience is beneficial but not required.
- Willingness to work on weekends (flexible schedule).
- Trauma-informed approach when working with kids who have special needs.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work well within a team and with diverse groups.
- Basic understanding of marketing and budgeting.
- Familiarity with or interest in arts-based activities.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
Position Details
- Part-time: 20 hours per week.
- Official start date: January 22.
