Overview

Impact Writer (2503604) for Stony Brook University Advancement. The Impact Writer will support the Advancement team by creating donor-centered communications that showcase the impact of philanthropy, lead development of stewardship reports, impact stories, donor profiles, video scripts, event remarks, and leadership talking points. The role collaborates across departments to enhance data-informed personalization of donor communications to advance institutional goals.

Responsibilities

  • Impact Writing: Write and edit materials including stewardship reports, impact reports, case and vision statements, video scripts and leadership remarks. Manage the annual donor reporting process, creating individualized reports and impact communications for key supporters and broader impact publications. Partner with Annual Giving and Advancement Marketing and Communications to develop meaningful impact communications for annual giving-level supporters.
  • Project Management: Plan, execute, manage, and monitor impact communications projects, ensuring timely and accurate completion while proactively communicating updates to the team. Projects include leading planning/production of donor stewardship reports and donor impact publications; creating and managing workflows for stewardship writing and delivery; coordinating with Advancement colleagues, designers, and editors on production and delivery of donor communications; establishing processes to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality in impact reporting and donor communications.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Advancement teams and Stony Brook University departments to gather stories, data, and impact metrics that inform donor communications. Strengthen relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure mutual success. Support the Constituent Experience team by helping streamline content development and impact reporting.
  • Growth and Development: Seek opportunities for growth and learning to improve personal and team performance and contribute to organizational success. Share insights and best practices, and foster a culture of continuous learning within the team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Two (2) years of full-time experience in writing, communications, and/or related fields.
  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, and/or healthcare organizations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one (1) additional year of experience in writing, communications, and/or related fields.
  • Experience in philanthropy, fundraising communications, or stewardship writing.
  • Experience working with CRM or donor databases to inform reporting and storytelling.

Special Notes

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
