Overview
Assistant Professor, English And Writing at the University of Tampa. The Department of English and Writing invites applications for a tenure-track Advanced Assistant Professor in Composition to begin in August 2026.
The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, private institution with more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is located on a 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, near downtown Tampa. UTampa has a diverse student body, extensive student organizations, and a range of programs and facilities described in the original posting.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate writing and related courses, with a teaching load of 6 courses per year.
- Primarily teach in Academic Writing and contribute to the Spartan Studies general education curriculum.
- Possess or develop leadership experience in writing program administration; expected to assume the rotating WPA role after tenure.
- Develop curricula for Academic Writing (AWR) and general education programs.
- Engage in scholarly activity and establish a research agenda in areas such as writing assessment, composition technologies, online pedagogy, writing center theory and practice, or multilingual writing.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, or a related field.
- Experience teaching in undergraduate writing programs.
- Leadership experience in writing program administration preferred.
- Demonstrated scholarly potential commensurate with a tenure-track appointment; preferred areas include but are not limited to writing program administration, composition pedagogy, and related fields.
- Ability and interest in teaching across AWR, the English and Writing core, and Spartan Studies general-education curriculum.
- Teaching load: 6 courses per year.
