INTERMEDIATE DESIGNER

Building Lab is an award-winning design/build firm specializing in thoughtful and highly refined residential renovations and new construction. We are seeking an ambitious, creative, and detail-oriented Intermediate Designer to join our team. The position involves a diverse range of functions across project development, requiring strong and varied production skills.

Responsibilities

  1. Work directly with the Senior Designer, Project Architect, and Principal in creating and coordinating architectural design and documents, including drawings, renderings, schedules, material selections, and specifications.
  2. Assist in refining and maintaining standards for architectural documents, including design and production drawing sets and the architectural detail library.
  3. Create, organize, and maintain all project-related digital and hardcopy materials.
  4. Maintain consistency with existing protocols and standard operating procedures while thinking critically and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
  5. Conduct zoning and building code research.
  6. Coordinate, pick up, transport, and deliver material and product samples from vendors and suppliers.
  7. Organize and coordinate the materials library.
  8. Receive and organize delivery of products and materials in office storage.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and 5-7 years of experience; experience in high-end residential design is highly preferred.
  2. Demonstrable experience in architectural drawing production from schematics through construction details.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  4. Creative with a strong knowledge of modern architecture principles and practices.
  5. Understanding of construction methods, materials, surveying, and inspection; some construction experience is preferred.
  6. Ability to review, analyze, and make recommendations on designs, plans, schedules, and specifications.
  7. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions, including reading and understanding drawings and specifications.
  8. Organized, systematic, and efficient, capable of managing multiple duties and projects while focusing on long-term goals.
  9. Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Google Drive.
  10. Fluency in Archicad is highly preferred; BIM software experience is required.
  11. Experience with rendering software compatible with Archicad.
  12. Basic knowledge of California Building Codes and sustainable building practices.
  13. This is an in-office position; hybrid arrangements may be considered after onboarding and training.
  14. Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
