We are seeking a Senior Principal UX Engineer - Researcher/Designer to contribute to the design and research of human-centered systems. You will apply user experience methods to features, workflows, and system modules to ensure usability, consistency, and mission effectiveness.
Responsibilities Plan and execute user research activities, create prototypes and wireframes, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver intuitive and efficient solutions.
Work independently or as part of a UX team, contributing to style guide compliance, usability studies, and agile development processes.
Perform UX research independently, or UX design independently, or a combination of both, depending on program needs.
Translate user needs into actionable design deliverables and support agile development with cross-functional collaboration.
Support compliance with style guides and deliver user-centered solutions that enhance mission outcomes.
Maintain a strong grounding in human factors/UX methodologies and translate complex requirements into intuitive design solutions.
Collaborate with stakeholders to align user needs with project objectives and contribute to usability studies and user feedback activities.
Location This position can be located in Redondo Beach, CA, Aurora CO, or Colorado Springs, CO.
Basic Qualifications 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 6 years with a Master’s; 4 years with a PhD
Active Secret clearance required at time of application
Expertise with user-centered design principles, research methodologies, and usability testing
Experience coordinating and leading UCD efforts, including research, usability testing, and user feedback sessions
Ability to plan and lead user engagement activities and collaborate with stakeholders
Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design solutions for web applications
Ability to translate complex requirements into intuitive design solutions
Experience with design and prototyping tools (e.g., Axure, Lunacy, Adobe Suite, Lucid, Figma)
Strong communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams and in agile environments
Experience with Human Factors analyses (e.g., Task Analyses, Predictive Workload, Usability studies, Workload, Situational Awareness surveys)
Experience building and maintaining a style guide and design system
Experience with visual design and UX/UI development methods (personas, heuristic evaluations)
Ability to travel ~10% for user engagement visits or usability testing
Preferred Qualifications STEM degree
Familiarity with MIL-STD-1472
Experience designing applications for military users
Mastery of design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Lucid)
Familiarity with Systems Engineering
Familiarity with software development languages
Salary and Benefits Primary Level Salary Range: $124,900.00 - $206,000.00. The salary range is a general guideline; actual offers consider scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. In addition to base pay, overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long-term incentives may apply. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company-paid holidays, and PTO.
