MAJOR FUNCTIONS Under the general guidance and leadership of the City Manager's Office, the Media Specialist coordinates the City's media relations, digital communications, social media presence and multimedia content. The position plays a critical role in developing messaging that promotes the City's vision, enhances public understanding and strengthens community engagement. Work requires creativity, strong communication skills and proficiency in digital tools and media platforms. Video production, filming, editing and creating content with emphasis on explaining and sharing City processes, celebrations or education for citizens. Assist other departments in creating video content. Manage all aspects of media relations, including writing and distributing press releases, coordinating interviews and maintaining contact with journalists. Assist with the development and implementation of public information campaigns aligned with citywide goals. Assist with the City's social media accounts and create multimedia content, including videos, graphics and digital storytelling pieces. Monitor news and social media channels to track coverage, sentiment and emerging issues. Monitor and respond to public and media inquiries via social channels and traditional media. Analyze social media and media engagement metrics and provide regular reporting on performance trends. Maintain up-to-date media contact and digital asset databases and manage relationships with journalists. Ensure brand consistency and message alignment across all media platforms and public-facing communications. Support crisis communication efforts, including rapid-response messaging and media coordination. Assist in planning and promoting public events, City announcements and awareness campaigns. Capture photography and video content at City events and engagements. Performs other duties as requested.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong knowledge relating to the planning, coordination, creation and editing of video productions. Strong knowledge of media relations, communications, public affairs and digital engagement strategies. Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop and other marketing/creative software. Ability to independently learn and effectively use third-party software, emerging social media platforms and modern digital media tools. Ability to use critical thinking skills to arrive at solutions and suggest improvements to processes. Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative, professional and team-focused relationships with team members, leaders, other departments, community members and the general public. Organized, meticulous and detailed with projects and items produced. Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work and resources and meet necessary deadlines. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress situations. Strong desire to assist others to achieve their needs in a positive and servant-focused manner. Strong professional, cooperative, positive and team-focused communication in all written and oral forms, including email, letters, memos, etc. Ability to exercise independent judgment and resourcefulness while following processes and procedures as determined. Ability to multitask and maintain a strong level of organization with evolving and changing priorities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or generally acceptable equivalent. Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Public Relations, Communications or a related field preferred. Minimum of two (2) years' work experience in a professional business environment performing public relations, marketing, communication or related work preferred. Valid Driver's License. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
