Overview
Performs a variety of production design activities, as assigned, relating to graphic, visual design, environmental graphic design and a variety of similar design projects.
Responsibilities
- Work on various design projects as assigned.
- Produce preliminary designs and sketches under the direction of a supervisor; review with design team and client; modify designs as appropriate; create mock-ups; refine and finalize designs.
- Produce electronic art for reproduction purposes, using a Macintosh and/or PC computer, or manual methods; obtain necessary content, photos, text, data, and imagery.
- Attend project planning meetings with clients, design team members and other professionals.
- Conduct research as assigned.
- Maintain current knowledge of design methodologies, techniques, systems, fabrication substrates, and printing process used in above.
- Oversee printing and fabrication of assigned projects.
- Set-up of high resolution, print-ready, electronic art for production (includes bleeds, crop marks, pagination), using appropriate computer applications - utilizing imagery/photos, text/fonts, colors.
- Assist those contacted in the course of duty in an effective, efficient and professional manner.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge Of
Principles and practices of graphic design, branding, marketing, advertising, production, environmental graphic design, and signage.
Printing processes and substrate.
Photography, art, architecture, urban design and concepts of environmental design. Macintosh and/or PC computers and related design software.
Typography and/or overall layout design using typefaces. Materials used in printing projects, materials for signage and environmental graphic design projects.
Use of color profiles and color management systems - including PMS, CMYK, HEX, etc.
Principles and practices of
Skill To
Use a Macintosh and/or PC computer and a variety of design software; learn new design software. Use a variety of manual artistic/design tools in performance of duties.
Use a digital camera; take and edit pictures; write and design with text and utilize imagery in various layouts and projects.
Ability To
Participate in a variety of graphic, visual, multi-media, and environmental graphic design projects. Communicate clearly and concisely; visually, orally and in writing.
Meet deadlines and manage multiple projects at once.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including City officials and the general public.
Work within brand guidelines to create new material while keeping with the brand standards as required.
Education and Experience
Each applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in studio art, graphic design or a closely related field, and one year of experience in graphic, environmental, and visual design, or a closely related field. Portfolio required.

Working Conditions
Environmental Conditions: Predominately indoor studio/office environment; exposure to computer screens; some outdoor work required; exposure to extremes in weather conditions.
Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; light lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity required; ability to see well and distinguish colors required.
