Job Summary

The Social Media Strategist focuses on developing and implementing social media strategies, engaging with prospective students, current students, and alumni, and promoting our undergraduate and graduate programs. This position will manage the SON’s social media efforts, which includes developing a measurable social media strategy, managing key social media channels, creating (and co-creating) social media content, increasing engagement and application site traffic, and facilitating outreach with key stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Develop a measurable strategy for using social media channels to support communications and marketing goals by engaging with multiple audiences, including prospective students, current students, alumni, donors, and others.
  • Execute a comprehensive social media strategy to enhance the SON’s visibility and engagement across various platforms.
  • Manage multiple social media accounts that highlight nursing programs in several locations, including the main Tyler campus, North campus, Longview campus, and Palestine campus.
  • Take primary responsibility for day-to-day tactics, monitoring, and management of SON social channels on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X.
  • Creates social media content and posts daily, Monday – Friday.
  • Photographs SON events and day-to-day activities.
  • Coordinates with Strategic Communication Specialist to create a schedule for content accompanying program needs / deadlines.
  • Responds to social media interactions.
  • Analyze social media metrics to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Develop compelling original social content, individually and in collaboration with colleagues, that highlights student experiences, alumni success stories, faculty achievements, and program updates.
  • Curate content from other channels that can be repurposed to meet those goals.
  • Finds ways to tell SON stories in ways that are imaginative and appropriate to each channel we engage with.
  • Write, edit, take photos, and shoot video for other departmental projects, as needed.
  • Work with the Institutional Marketing department to ensure all content meets brand standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

  • One (1) year of social media experience.
  • May accept a combination of education and experience.

  • Basic computer skills; proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
