Summary:
Writing Tutor - Learning Center (Pocono) — Part-time (approximately 10 to 25 hours per week), located at our Pocono Campus in Tannersville, PA. Tutors support student success by using a personalized approach to help each student gain a deeper understanding of course material, develop effective learning strategies, engage in critical thinking, and acquire additional academic skills to reach educational goals. Tutors may meet with students on an individual or small group basis on campus and/or online. Tutors receive College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) training and are expected to obtain certification within one year of employment. Tutors participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional development, promptly respond to correspondence from Learning Center staff, and maintain complete and accurate records. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding of the subject(s) they will tutor
- An Associate degree or higher in the discipline or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
- A grade of B or above in each course the candidate intends to tutor
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical skills, an interest in working with a diverse population of students, patience, and a genuine desire to help others learn and succeed
- Previous experience as a peer or professional tutor is a plus but not required
