Sigma, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Media Relations Manager to join the MassDOT Office of Communications in Boston, MA. This role requires a dynamic, hands-on communications professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-profile environment. The Media Relations Manager will oversee external and internal communications, manage media inquiries, coordinate public events, and lead messaging strategies across press, digital, and social platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary spokesperson for MassDOT, responding to media inquiries and proactively pitching stories across Massachusetts.
- Draft, review, and distribute press releases, advisories, speeches, talking points, and editorial pieces.
- Manage and update content across social media platforms, websites, marketing materials, and digital campaigns.
- Plan and execute public events, news conferences, open houses, and community meetings in collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Create and oversee promotional, marketing, and informational videos that support MassDOT's mission and strategic goals.
- Exercise discretion and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Coordinate with internal subject matter experts and colleagues to ensure accurate, professional, and timely messaging.
- Conduct research, generate reports, and prepare briefings for senior leadership.
- Work on evenings, weekends, and holidays as required for breaking news, weather emergencies, and last-minute announcements.
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field (preferred).
- Proven experience in media relations, public affairs, or communications within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong writing, editing, and speechwriting skills with experience crafting messaging for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and delegate while meeting tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with digital communications tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage relationships with media, stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Flexibility to respond to urgent, time-sensitive communications needs.
