About the role The Brooklyn Museum is seeking a Digital Content Associate to support the execution of our social media, email, and SMS programs. This full-time hybrid role is ideal for someone who brings strategic thinking, strong production chops, and a clear understanding of what drives digital engagement, especially across platforms like Instagram and TikTok. As part of our small-but-mighty Digital Team, you’ll play an integral part in the full lifecycle of content, from ideation and planning, production and approvals, through to platform management, publishing, and performance tracking. This role works collaboratively across multiple channels and with other departments across the museum to support campaign goals and institutional priorities, including Marketing, Arts/Exhibitions, Public Programs, Retail, Education, and more. You’ll also have a valuable role in cultivating our audiences and community with the aim of sending delightful and engaging social posts, emails, and texts to Brooklyn Museum followers and subscribers and helping us deepen relationships with our members, visitors, and art lovers worldwide.
Responsibilities Further the Museum’s brand, encouraging visitation, and deepening relationships with supporters by brainstorming content ideas
Repurpose and adapt existing content across digital channels to create social media posts, newsletters, and SMS content to support the Museum’s Shop, Public Programming, Education, and Membership departments
Create and manage monthly asset requests across departments (design, image, and video) for email, SMS, organic and paid socials
Support the Senior Digital Content Manager - Social Media with the planning, logistics, and execution of social media productions, including occasional live social coverage at select public events, Education programs, and exhibition openings
Spearhead content creation for Shop, Public Programs, Education, and Membership as well as select exhibitions on social media
Support the creation of social media toolkits for internal stakeholders as needed, helping route content approvals by various internal and external stakeholders
Follow and update the digital team content calendars in AirTable
Manage email send dates from other departments (Membership, Special Events, Individual Giving, Patron Groups, and Shop)
Draft, format and schedule emails, texts, and social media posts (organic and paid social); occasionally publishing content manually that can’t be scheduled in advance
Proofread and test to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and best practices are met with segmenting, coding, tagging, image descriptions, alt-texts, captioning, etc.
Act as a liaison between the Digital Content team and external contractors to oversee Shop email content and ensure deadlines are met
Proactively support the upkeep and maintenance of our social channels (currently Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, LinkedIn, Facebook)
Update timely information and links, swapping stories, changing banners, etc.; update information and links for daily emails when necessary; stay up to date with the latest app and feature updates
Initiate conversations in the comments, through direct messages on SMS and social media, and through our dedicated public facing inbox; make friends with our followers, artists, peer organizations; help answer their questions; de-escalate heated exchanges, see what are visitors are sharing and help us crowd-source content (#MyBkM); listen to what followers and are saying, thinking, feeling, and report back to us so we can make everyone’s experience better onsite and online
Collaborate with various teams across the Museum to identify audience interests and to create audience segments for email and SMS sends that will maximize engagement
Drive visitation, ticket sales, and event attendance by leading the Museum’s SMS platform development and engagement
Coordinate with Graphic Design, Public Programs, and Membership to build audiences
Build campaigns that are fun and informative
Manage emergency communications/closures
Assess performance of social media, email, SMS content and campaigns by pulling stats to create monthly reports to present to the team
Flags KPIs and potential growth opportunities with key audience demographics in mind
Create guides and conduct trainings across the Museum to ensure all relevant team members know the ins and outs of WordFly and SimpleTexting
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
At least two years of digital experience at a digital media outlet or mission-oriented organization
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Prior professional writing and/or content production experience
Basic photo and video editing skills, and confidence using with social in-app tools
Confident savviness with a variety of digital platforms; we currently use Wordfly for email, SimpleTexting for SMS, and we’re on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, LinkedIn, and Facebook
Exceptional organizational skills: Capable of managing different work streams and projects simultaneously; able to manage near- and long-term deadlines simultaneously
Great attention to detail and consistency
Data-driven, or at least data-curious
Enthusiasm for using online tools to reach people, meet goals, and bring people together through art
Additional Qualifications: Experience with Sprout Social, Figma, Canva, and Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Rush, Premiere)
Experience using project management software (we’re on Airtable)
Love of art and visual design
Reports to: Senior Digital Content Manager

Salary: $67,742.69

FLSA status: Exempt
Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm, with occasional evenings and weekend hours
