Job Summary
The Public Relations & Outreach Coordinator will act as the initial point of contact for the Marketing Communications department while cultivating relationships with press and earned media outlets, partner organizations, and potential sponsors. Support mission and vision throughout the performance of duties.
Essential Functions
Assist with day-to-day earned media efforts as needed; respond to incoming media requests.
Greet guests and partners and provide general tours of the galleries.
Write the first drafts of external content and communications pieces, including press releases, pitch letters, fact sheets, media advisories, and other pieces as needed; to be reviewed by the Director, Marketing Communications.
Collaborate with and grow external hospitality and earned revenue partnerships to promote MCASD as a cultural destination.
Under the supervision of the Director, Marketing Communications, support the development of print and digital advertising materials by helping to gather materials needed, submit design requests to MCASD’s graphic designer, and coordinate deadlines and communications with outlets when necessary.
Facilitate and execute ongoing and established advertising strategies, including selection of publications for ad placement and collaborating with internal departments as needed.
Work with a cross-departmental team helping to write and edit content related to events, collateral materials, and external communications.
Compile data analytics for performance of earned media and ad placements in quarterly reports (knowledge of Meltwater is a plus).
Understand, define, and ensure adherence to communication standards and best practices.
Work weekends and evenings as needed.
Follow policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to foster and maintain proactive and effective working relationships with media and cooperative marketing partners. Knowledge of art press and contemporary art preferred. Demonstrated written, oral, interpersonal, and communication skills, including editing ability. Ability to interact and collaborate with all levels of employees and the public and work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community. Bachelor’s degree in related field and one year of recent, relevant experience or any equivalent education and experience. Knowledge of media placement, printing, production, and creative development preferred. Strong knowledge of non-profit, national arts, and audience trends preferred.
