Head Of Data Visualization

The Head of Data Visualization will lead the organization's efforts to transform data into compelling, actionable insights through advanced visualization and analytics. This role combines strategic vision with hands-on expertise in Power BI and Databricks, enabling the business to make data-driven decisions faster and with greater confidence. The ideal candidate will be responsible for defining visualization standards, overseeing dashboard development, optimizing performance, integrating with enterprise data platforms, and mentoring a high-performing analytics team.

  • Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and execute the organization's data visualization strategy, aligning with enterprise data and analytics goals.
    • Promote a culture of self-service analytics and data literacy across the business.
    • Partner with business units to identify reporting and visualization needs that drive business impact.
  • Hands-On Development & Technical Oversight
    • Design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic models.
    • Integrate Power BI with Databricks to deliver scalable, real-time analytics solutions.
    • Optimize DAX queries, data models, and visual designs for performance and usability.
    • Implement row-level security, data governance rules, and access controls within Power BI.
  • Platform & Data Architecture Management
    • Oversee the integration of Power BI with the Databricks Lakehouse platform.
    • Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure robust, clean, and well-modeled datasets.
    • Establish standards for dataset design, metadata, and documentation.
    • Ensure data refresh schedules, gateway configurations, and API connections are optimized.
  • Process & Governance
    • Define visualization design standards, naming conventions, and development best practices.
    • Implement CI/CD pipelines for Power BI content deployment.
    • Monitor usage analytics and continuously improve adoption and performance.
  • Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Lead and mentor a team of BI developers, data analysts, and visualization specialists.
    • Work closely with executives and business leaders to ensure visualizations meet decision-making needs.
    • Facilitate training sessions and knowledge sharing across business teams.
  • Analytics & Insight Delivery
    • Translate complex datasets into clear, intuitive, and actionable visual stories.
    • Use Databricks for advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and embedding results into Power BI.
    • Measure the business impact of dashboards and recommend improvements.
Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (required) in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 10+ years in BI and analytics roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
Functional Skills

Proven hands-on expertise in Power BI development and administration. Strong experience with Databricks, including Delta Lake, SQL, and integration with BI tools. Expert-level DAX, Power Query (M), and data modeling skills. Experience with Databricks SQL, Python, and Spark for analytics workloads. Knowledge of cloud data platforms (Azure), preferably Azure Data Lake and Databricks. Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance requirements. Strong business acumen with the ability to link data insights to business outcomes. Excellent communication skills for both technical and executive audiences.
