Founded in 1984, Firetrol is the national leader in fire protection & life safety services. We are currently seeking a Fire Alarm Designer to join our team of over 900 of the best fire protection and security professionals in the industry. This opportunity will be in our Austin, Texas location.

Fire Alarm Systems Designer Summary

The Fire Alarm Systems Designer has specific expertise in the design and CAD layout of fire alarm systems for various facilities in our Texas jurisdictions. Each product is designed and engineered to meet specific customer needs.

Responsibilities:

  1. Communicate technical concepts to sales reps, operations team, and customers.
  2. Design and layout of Fire Alarm systems in AutoCAD per code requirements.
  3. Design and layout of Access Control systems in AutoCAD per code requirements.
  4. Build equipment submittals.
  5. Review design plans completed within the department prior to submission to customers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with code and company standards.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Prefer 2 years' experience with Fire Alarm systems layout per IBC, NFPA 72 & 101.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2019 or newer.
  • Prefer 2 years' experience with Access Control and Fire Alarm systems.
  • EST alarm system experience preferred but not required.
  • Texas Fire Alarm Planning Superintendent (APS) License or ability to obtain.
  • NICET Level III or IV in Fire Alarm Systems or ability to obtain.
  • Knowledge of in-building emergency communications systems (e.g., ERCES/BDA/DAS).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Knowledge of required codes.
  • Ability and willingness to engage with local AHJs to discuss local code requirements.
  • Self-starter without need for oversight.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong work ethic with a positive attitude.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and juggle multiple priorities with strict deadlines.
  • Accepts responsibility for design.
  • Ability to analyze, identify, and follow up to resolve discrepancies.
