The Graphic Designer reports to the Assistant Art Director and is a key member of the Museum’s Design Department. The Graphic Designer provides graphic and experiential design solutions for world-class exhibition projects and gallery enhancements. Core functions include the layout and production of graphics for all physical spaces in the museum.
Responsibilities
- Core member of the design team with the 3D Designer for assigned special exhibition projects.
- Fulfill graphic design duties for sign requests from all Museum areas, including visitor services, membership, education, curatorial, programs, events, facilities, and communications.
- Familiarize self with in-house methods for design, production, and installation of gallery environmental graphics (labels, text panels, cut vinyl signage, etc.).
- Design, typeset, and facilitate production of graphics for gallery changes; collaborate with curatorial staff and project manager to create object labels, text panels, maps, and diagrams.
- Assist production staff with preparation and installation of gallery labels, text panels, maps, museum signage, and other related didactic and graphic materials.
- Possess manual skills to produce graphics-related materials, including matte cutting and applying vinyl lettering.
- Demonstrate proficiency with Mac-based graphics software including Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Contribute ideas during Design meetings/reviews to implement innovations and cost-effective solutions.
- Apply fluency in ADA standards to graphic design deliverables.
Secondary Functions
- Familiarity and strong interest in Art History and Design.
- Willingness to travel and research environmental/graphic designs in other museums and related spaces.
Qualifications
- 2 years of Graphic Design experience, preferably in print and/or environmental graphic design.
- BA in Graphic Design preferred.
- Keen interest in Art and Design.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience with typography.
- Fluency with Mac-based graphics software, primarily the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Good manual skills including precision cutting, applying vinyl lettering, and familiarity with hand tools and electric power tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with colleagues from many departments; able to communicate and troubleshoot design solutions with non-designers; team player.

Salary and Schedule
Salary: $57,219 - $58,000
Full-Time, 35 hours per week
