Essential Functions of Position

Responsibilities
- Teaching a part-time schedule of Journalism courses as assigned.
- Using a variety of pedagogies and instructional delivery systems, including technology-enabled face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid formats.
- Communicating effectively with students, faculty and staff.
- Using effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhering to approved curriculum outlines of record.
- Evaluating student progress through tests, assignments, and other methods aligned with course objectives.
- Providing course syllabi to students and maintaining classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
- Turning in all required grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
- Teaching assignments across varied instructional settings and times as needed.
- Fulfilling duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
All candidates must demonstrate responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students within equity-minded practice.
- Master’s in journalism or communication with a specialization in journalism; or
- Bachelor’s in either of the above and Master’s in English, history, communication, literature, composition, or related fields; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- Equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency process required).
Note: If degrees listed on transcripts do not exactly match the stated requirements, petition for equivalency.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into responsibilities.
- Experience with racially minoritized students and understanding of historical patterns of exclusion in higher education.
- Willingness to examine and improve instructional practices to support racially minoritized students.
- Related professional experience and ability to work with diverse student populations and with technology in instruction.
- Strong communication with students and staff; knowledge of current assessment methods; understanding of the community college mission.
Salary and Benefits
- Newly hired part-time faculty placed on step one (1) of the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
- Salary classifications based on education and experience per the Part-Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
- Sick leave accrual based on assignment hours.
