Overview

The Ames Free Library of Easton invites applications from detail-oriented individuals with superior people skills and a passion for libraries for the position of Full-time (35 hours per week) Library Circulation Technician. Duties include working with other full-time circulation staff members as well as the circulation supervisor to provide and ensure outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Check materials in and out, renew items, register new patrons, place holds, process interlibrary loans, and make museum pass reservations.
  • Assist patrons with readers’ advisory and basic instruction on library services, such as the online catalog or self-checkout machine.
  • Support two evening shifts per week and a rotating Saturday shift as part of the schedule.

Qualifications

  • Ability to deal effectively with the public in a tactful manner while upholding library policies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other staff.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Familiarity with computers and with library automated systems preferred.
  • Ability to work creatively and think outside the box.
  • Light physical effort is required. Must occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Library experience preferred.
