Position Summary
Under the supervision of the IPT (Impact Programs Team) and Music Studio Program Director, the Jr. Youth Development Professional assists with the operation of a quality school-age childcare program that complies with current DeltaCare rules for school-age centers. The Music Studio program offers education for 6 to 18-year-old children and teens in music production, videography, editing content for YouTube and Instagram, live sound engineering, studio engineering, DJ lessons, and livestreaming. Individuals in this role will be trained to deliver music programming to youth at the clubs and in-school programs, in addition to DJ & AV support at special events.
Responsibilities
- Perform all job responsibilities in compliance with current state licensing requirements for school-age childcare centers; address non-compliance issues as needed or directed.
- Assist Music Studio Program Director in effectively delivering a variety of age-appropriate programs and activities, which reflect Boys & Girls Club’s five core program areas and Youth Development Strategy, for children ages 6 – 12 and teens ages 13-18.
- Assist with filming and editing promotional and educational content for the MAVerick YouTube channel and Instagram page.
- Support live sound engineering by helping with setup, operation, and breakdown of audio equipment for events.
- Lead and run engaging programs such as a middle school gaming club and music production workshops.
- Help ensure safe implementation of all programs and activities, including equipment and facility condition, age-appropriateness, ability levels, weather considerations, and proper use of equipment and supplies.
- Present yourself as a positive role model for children at all times.
- Consistently adhere to the policies and practices of BGCDE and Delaware STARS.
- Assume other tasks, assignments and responsibilities as needed or directed.
- Work eligibility: Sixteen (16) years of age or older to work at the club; Eighteen (18) years of age or older to work at middle schools and special events; work permits required for all employed minors under 18.
- Training or experience in one or more of the following: music, filming, video editing, DJing, visual arts, graphic design, or marketing; background checks (under 18) and fingerprinting (over 18) required.
Specific Provisions for Individuals 16 and 17 years of age
- Minors 16-17 years of age may not work more than twelve hours in a combination of school & work per day.
- Must have at least eight consecutive hours of non-work, non-school time in each 24-hour period.
- May not work more than five hours continuously without a non-work period of at least 30 consecutive minutes.
Environmental and Working Conditions
Environmental and working conditions vary from indoors to outdoors; various meeting locations in and out of the Club; occasional statewide travel. Employees are subject to transfer between departments and sites as organizational needs change.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Regularly speak clearly and hear the spoken word.
- Ability to lift, carry or move and position objects weighing up to 25-75 pounds when preparing room for instruction (preferred but not required).
- Typically bends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs while interacting with children in activities.
- Maintain a high energy level and be comfortable working with children aged 5-14 in varying levels of physical activity.
Work Hours
School Year: Shifts scheduled with flexibility between Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM; 6-15 hours per week. Occasional Saturday hours requested but not required for special events.
