Position Summary
The Clinical Nursing Consultant II develops and implements nursing educational programs for nursing service personnel. It facilitates patient care delivery using the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model, provides patient care and consultation, coordinates staff development, and acts as a clinical role model. The CNC II aims to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence-Based Practice, Relationship-Based Care, and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the CNC II participates in monitoring, developing, and evaluating nursing practice while fulfilling unit and organizational goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Participates in planning and coordination of nursing activities across clinical services; designs and conducts studies to define the scope of nursing responsibilities in a clinical area.
- Assists nursing staff to develop effective care plans by studying existing patient care programs, identifying deficiencies, and developing educational programs.
- Analyzes factors affecting performance in a specialized clinical service; establishes performance standards for nursing personnel.
- Identifies needs for improved methods and techniques; demonstrates nursing care methods specific to a clinical service.
- Guides professional nursing staff in continuity of care for patients involved with students during portions of the patient care sequence; develops programs to complement student assignments.
- Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to changing patient needs.
- Collaborates with and supports departmental and organizational education and initiatives through Clinical Practice and Professional Development.
- Initiates and analyzes evidence-based practice research to improve patient outcomes and supports nursing and multidisciplinary research efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned and participates in special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Registration with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
- Five years of nursing experience.
- Ability to select appropriate teaching methods based on employees’ educational and experience backgrounds.
- Master's degree required.
- Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit-specific certifications; current ACLS.
- Nationally certified through an ANCC-approved certifier, or certification within 6 months of hire in an area relevant to the clinical area.
