Job Description

Job Summary:

The Development Director is a full-time position, reporting to Public Radio Tulsa's General Manager. The Development Director is responsible for overseeing all areas of fundraising and marketing for Public Radio Tulsa. This includes membership, major gifts, new member acquisition, grant writing, and listener/donor engagement. The Development Director oversees all development staff, including Development Associate and any contract employees. In addition, the Development Director is responsible for post-sale underwriting and all Purchasing functions.

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

  • Plans and implements all aspects of on-air fund drives.
  • Plans and implements all aspects of donor direct mail, including renewal, add-gift, acquisition, lapsed, and stewardship-related contact.
  • Ensures that new members are appropriately nurtured and welcomed.
  • Manages the monthly renewal/thanks processes for donors.
  • Stewards mid-level donors to identify and encourage mid-level givers to deepen their investment in Public Radio Tulsa.
  • Identifies potential and existing major donors, cultivates donors through building genuine and honest relationships, and crafts appropriate solicitations.
  • Provides donors with prompt updates about projects and immediate thanks for gifts.
  • Nurtures major donor relationships, encouraging meaningful and transformational support for the station and experiences for the donor.
  • Administers all after-sales aspects of business underwriting, including:
    • Approves all underwriting copy, per FCC and station guidelines.
    • Creates air schedules for all underwriting flights on both KWGS and KWTU.
    • Records all underwriting statements.
    • Inserts/deletes all underwriting in all automation systems (currently BSI/KWGS and Rivendell/KWTU).
    • Provides runtime affidavits monthly as requested to Public Radio Tulsa Underwriting Sales.
    • Represents Public Radio Tulsa Underwriting to customers within the University, creating copy and schedules, recording statements, and invoicing.
  • Handles all aspects of purchasing for the stations, including:
    • Submits all Purchase Order and Blanket Purchase Order requests through the SSC and Accounts Payable office.
    • Submits all check requests.
    • Maintains logs of all POs, BPOs, and check requests, and communicates with vendors about payment statuses.
    • Maintains the station Procurement Card, including logging all purchases and submitting all reports to the ProCard manager.
    • Works with new vendors to have them approved as official University vendors.
    • Works in Colleague to determine account, payment, and vendor status, and to generate budgets as requested.
  • Identifies potential granting opportunities, develops relationships with key grantors, and writes/oversees grants.
  • Collaborates with Development Associate to create listener and donor engagement experiences that encourage listening, giving, and participation.
  • Collaborates with General Manager to create exciting, cohesive development and audience growth plans that meet the stations' growing needs.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to craft creative and compelling persuasive statements in support of KWGS and KWTU.
  • Experience creating multi-platform fundraising strategies.
  • The ability to work independently, creatively, and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including project management.
  • Proficiency working with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software (in particular, Allegiance Fundraising software).
Equivalent Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Must have 5 - 7 years' experience in individual gifts and/or major gifts fundraising.
  • Public media fundraising experience preferred.
  • Experience writing funding proposals for granting organizations preferred.
  • Familiarity with and enthusiasm for the mission of public radio preferred.
