Overview As a member of the USA Sports communications team, the Senior Manager, Communications is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans for publicity of sports properties across the USA Sports portfolio. This includes all programming on Golf Channel, as well as sports programming on USA Network, such as NASCAR, WNBA, Premier League, WWE, Olympic sports and college sports. This position will have exposure across a variety of internal and external stakeholders, with the expectation of impactful input across key events and properties. The Senior Manager position also be on-site, as needed, to support coverage at events. The role requires division- and company-wide collaboration with USA Sports’ production, programming, digital sports platforms and marketing departments, as well as other communications departments within VERSANT.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute publicity strategies to secure media coverage of USA Network Sports and Golf Channel live event presentations and studio programming.
Conceptualize innovative ways to achieve earned media and build brand awareness for USA Network Sports and Golf Channel.
Interact with on-air talent and executives and tell their stories in non-traditional outlets – pitch the story, arrange the interview, and prepare messaging, where appropriate.
Create, manage and evolve sports and non-sports focused press lists and targets.
Contribute social media content and ideas for USA Networks Sports and Golf Channel communications platforms.
Support other sports and initiatives in the department, including digital sports platforms, internal communications, and CSR.
Identify, establish, and maintain personal relationships with key contacts in the press and industry partners.
Occasionally travel to events to assist PR efforts.
Write and distribute press releases and support management of press lists.
Prepare and manage talking points for on-air talent and executives.
Work with VERSANT Communications team to support all properties and events across departments, including entertainment.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Proactive communications professional with 5-10 years of experience in sports or sports media, ideally with experience working with outlets/publications covering sports, media, and entertainment.
Ability to cultivate and pitch stories, create messaging documents, prepare spokespeople, and handle in-bound press inquiries.
Exceptional collaboration skills to work with necessary internal and external groups.
Proven writing skills, with examples of written work such as press releases, bios, or media guides.
Select travel to key events presented by USA Network's Sports and Golf Channel.
In-office requirement of 3 days a week minimum, Tuesday through Thursday, based in Stamford, Conn. Exceptions made for travel.
Desired Characteristics:
Demonstrated skillset for forward-thinking strategic planning and proactive communication.
Preexisting relationships with reporters across sports, media, entertainment, and culture.
Excellent multitasking skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
A collaborative team player who seeks out partnership, while leading and maintaining multiple individual value streams.
Experience working for a media company or within a large corporation a plus.
Photoshop, PowerPoint, and social media skills.
Additional Information
Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week. Subject to change based on Manager discussion or business need.
