Description
The Media Arts Department of School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University invites
animators to apply to teach one of the two sections of Animation I in Spring 2026. The course
covers introductory practices in techniques including drawn, cut-out and stop-motion
animation. We seek to hire an individual who is making an ongoing contribution to the
advancement of animation and who will add to the department's strengths in studio practice,
approaches to animation criticism from a global perspective. We have a strong interest in candidates with expertise in bridging areas of animation with other forms visual art. The SMFA at Tufts animation curriculum encourages experimentation and values a range of approaches including traditional narratives, poetic/abstract non-narratives, documentary, and installation.
Qualifications
An MFA is required. Additional qualifications include at least 2 years of prior teaching
experience at college level. The successful applicant should be able to lead in-class
demonstrations, assign readings, engage with diverse groups of students, and create an
inclusive class environment while expanding the conversation in the world of animation.
The course is scheduled to be on Thursdays 2:30-7:30 pm. First class meeting is January 15, 2026. The last class is April 23 with an additional obligation of a full day of review boards.

that highlights relevant experience, a CV, 8-10 images of artwork and/or online links to movie
clips of their work, please limit all clips to a total of 7 mins., one sample syllabus (for a related
course), and the names and email addresses of two references who may be contacted at a
future date.
