The Creative Director – Books and Curriculum provides strategic leadership and hands-on creative direction across visual content for authors, products, and brand initiatives. This role leads a talented team of in-house designers, contracted creatives, and external partners to produce market-leading assets that reflect the organization’s mission and values. The ideal candidate excels in graphic design, video production, or both, and brings a strong portfolio showcasing creative excellence and innovation. They will foster a collaborative team culture, drive brand consistency, and ensure timely communication with internal and external stakeholders across publishing, curriculum, marketing, production, and author relations.
Key Responsibilities
Guide all creative projects and ensure the overall quality of work produced by the creative department.
Lead and direct the creative team in producing marketing collateral and content, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
Manage the full creative process from concept to completion, ensuring efficient workflows and timely project delivery.
Collaborate with the marketing team to ideate and develop impactful digital content aligned with strategic objectives.
Oversee creative output to ensure consistency with brand guidelines across all platforms and channels.
Build treatments and implement actionable strategies and creative deliverables for graphic design, video, and web projects using cutting-edge technologies and trends.
Develop and refine brand guidelines, establishing and enforcing visual and creative standards that reflect company values and resonate with the target audience.
Provide inspirational leadership and strategic direction to direct reports, supporting their professional growth and aligning efforts with the overall vision and goals of David C Cook.
Collaborate with team members to assess resource needs and determine when to engage external partners or agencies to optimize project outcomes.
Actively contributes to the development and execution of innovative strategies that enhance market position and drive revenue growth.
Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continually improve creative processes and outputs.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, film, marketing, or a related field (equivalent experience)
5-7 years of experience in creative direction
Must have a proven track record leading and developing a small creative team with high output
Preferred background in account leadership and marketing/retail
Excellent communication, strategic thinker and leadership skills
Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)
Proficient in graphic design, web design, and video/audio editing
Strong portfolio showcasing a range of design work, including books and promotional materials
Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines
Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into effective tactics and scale
Up-to-date knowledge of marketing trends and digital-first technologies
Savvy in email marketing and lead lifecycle optimization
Comfortable collaborating daily with a global team and communicating across international borders
Familiarity with Mac computers and MS Office
Travel required
Must work in our Colorado Springs, CO office
