Dispatcher / Communication Specialist - Full Time Days / Nights /Weekends

Sanford Health is one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in the United States. Sanford AirMed dispatchers are responsible for receiving and coordinating requests for air and ground medical transport requiring the use of Sanford AirMed Flight Teams.

Overview

Location: Sioux Falls, SD | Facility: Central Patient Building | Address: 1305 W 18th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57105, USA

Responsibilities

• Dispatch appropriate aircraft and flight teams and communicate with referring and accepting hospitals/agencies.
• Flight follow aircraft, read maps, and enter data using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software.
• Work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment as part of a team and individually.
• Collaborate with flight teams, pilots, One-Call nurses, and administration to ensure efficient transports and quality patient care.
• Perform data entry, documentation, and QA data collection; maintain access to and security of sensitive materials.
• Read and interpret maps and computer screen information to determine locations and directions.
• Utilize radios and other communication methods; participate in training to maintain certifications and knowledge.
• May require extended sitting, variable hours, and weekend rotations depending on location and patient needs.
• Attend training classes to maintain licensure/certification and stay current with field developments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• EMS principles/training or relevant dispatch experience helpful but not required depending on location.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, typing proficiency, and comfort with Windows-based systems.
• Strong critical thinking, problem solving, relationship-building, and flexibility.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a confined area with one other person for 12 hours; ability to handle day and evening shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask; maintain composure in high-stress situations.

Shift and Schedule

Shift: 12 Hours - Night Shifts | Schedule: Full time | Weekly Hours: 36.00 | Rotation includes day and night shifts and weekend work. May include overtime, back-up calls, holidays, and varying hours by location.
