Genesis is seeking a skilled Marine Solidworks Designer for an on-site opportunity in Newport News, VA.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Marine SolidWorks Designer to create 3D models and detailed drawings of marine equipment, structural components, piping/HVAC subsystems, and/or assemblies. The ideal candidate will collaborate with naval architects, engineers, and project teams to ensure designs meet technical, safety, and regulatory standards for shipbuilding projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 3D models of marine equipment, machinery, piping, HVAC, and/or structural components using SolidWorks.
- Produce detailed fabrication and assembly drawings for shipboard components and subsystems.
- Collaborate with naval architects, engineers, and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet project requirements.
- Conduct interference and clash checks on assemblies and subassemblies.
- Support the creation of BOMs (Bill of Materials) and technical documentation for fabrication and installation.
- Assist in prototyping, design validation, and design modifications as required by project or client needs.
- Ensure compliance with marine standards, safety regulations, and classification society requirements.
- Participate in design review meetings and provide input on feasibility, cost, and manufacturability.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (part modeling, assemblies, drawings, surfacing).
- Experience in the marine, shipbuilding, or offshore industry preferred.
- Knowledge of piping, HVAC, mechanical systems, and/or structural components is a plus.
- Strong understanding of drafting standards, GD&T, and fabrication practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multi-discipline project teams.
- Experience with ShipConstructor, or other marine CAD software is a plus.
- Understanding of marine regulations and classification society requirements (ABS, DNV, Lloyd's).
- Familiarity with welding, sheet metal, and machining processes.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related field.
