Our client is seeking a highly motivated and resourceful Senior Mechanical Designer. In this role, you will create design solutions for the conceptual and preliminary design development of various reactor core components, reactor structures, and Nuclear Island components for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor. Candidates must have extensive experience in equipment design.

The Senior Mechanical Designer will report to the Core Component Design Manager. The Senior Mechanical Designer will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation advanced nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and utilize inputs and requirements from Engineering and Project teams to produce equipment and components design solutions.
  • Provide planning and schedule input for design activities.
  • Perform tolerance stackups using GD&T.
  • Interface with the team's engineering analysis activities.
  • Develop detailed engineering models and drawings.
  • Develop engineering specifications and testing documentation.
  • Present equipment and components design results for design reviews.
  • Interface with junior engineers and subcontractors, providing direction and mentoring for CAD and GD&T.
  • Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
Key Qualifications:
  • Education - Associates degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of equipment / component design experience.
  • Experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD (preferred) or equivalent CAD software.
  • Experience with Solidworks PDM (preferred) or equivalent CAD software.
  • Experience with GD&T essential.
  • Familiarity in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker.
  • Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • In the nuclear industry with core assemblies including fuel, control, and neutron source assemblies.
  • Using SolidWorks as a design tool.
  • Using Solidworks PDM.
  • Creating detailed engineering models and drawings.
  • With tolerance stackups using GD&T.
  • Writing engineering specifications and testing documentation.
  • Creating and documenting basic engineering analyses (tolerance stack-ups, structural, and thermal expansion).
