Overview

Principal Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop, prepare, and teach Fashion Design coursework for a multicultural student population based on the department’s approved course learning outcomes, using instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and the discipline’s standards.
- Meet professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures in the Fashion Design classrooms at Highland Campus.
- Participate in departmental responsibilities, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program levels, and other departmental activities.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback aligned with program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Remain current in the Fashion Industry and the teaching profession through professional development activities.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or executive leadership.
- Provide teaching and mentoring to students in a manner that respects civil rights and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
Current Work of the Department/Discipline
The Fashion Design program offers an Associate of Applied Science in Fashion Design and a Level 1 Certificate. The program features a state-of-the-art Fashion Lab at Highland Campus and emphasizes student knowledge, skills, and professional development. Teamwork and ongoing professional development are required.
Technology
- Proficiency with computer applications, online resources, and classroom technologies. Proficiency with an online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) to develop course content and manage administrative duties (e.g., posting office hours, syllabi).
Principal Professional Standards
- Meet deadlines for attendance certification and final course grades.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and support retention and success.
- Demonstrate civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Comply with college policies and professional standards for teaching in a community college.
- Appropriate use of the college’s learning management system.
Required Education
Educational requirements in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Design, Home Economics (with relevant concentration) or Marketing
- Or an associate degree in one of these fields with 3 years non-teaching work experience

Preferred Work Experience (Workforce Programs)
- A minimum of 3 years of industry-related non-teaching work experience.
Qualities of a Successful Candidate
- Fashion Industry experience is preferred
- Experience using industry software similar to Adobe Illustrator and the Creative Cloud Suite is preferred
- Teaching experience is preferred
- Strong skills in sketching and illustration
- Strong skills in sewing construction techniques, pattern making, and draping
- Willing to build on the current syllabus and contribute to ongoing curriculum development
