Library Assistant 4, Access & Resource Services - Digital Strategies Liaison, Course Reserves, Assessment.
Case Western Reserve University position with starting wage rate of $18.75 per hour. This role requires availability during evenings and weekends (Tuesday to Friday, 11:30 am – 8:00 pm; Saturday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm) and flexibility to adjust schedules during breaks, summers, and holidays.

Position objective: Working under occasional supervision, the LA4 reports to the LA5 Evening Supervisor, Access & Resource Services Team and operates as a library specialist within the Knowledge and Creativity Commons. The LA4 manages workflows and processes related to course reserves and assessment, and may involve hiring, scheduling, and training of staff, temporary employees, and students.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and Creativity Commons: Provide first-contact customer service at physical and online service points, oversee major circulation activities (staffing supervision, first line customer service support, problem resolution, payment management, stacks access, and safety issues), respond to overnight issues, and serve as a library unit lead in the absence of senior staff. (34%)
  • Fulfillment: Coordinate with the Technologies and Digital Strategies Librarian on Ex Libris Alma migration and fulfillment/circulation workflows; support patron experiences, troubleshoot problems, report errors, and train staff. (25%)
  • Course Reserves: Adjust services for a new library services platform, develop relationships with faculty and staff, respond to inquiries, review course syllabi, assist with course reserves requests, help students access materials, manage loan periods for campus availability, coordinate acquisitions, and promote services. (10%)
  • Assessment: Manage unit records and statistics, prepare statistical reports, analyze data for reporting, respond to data requests, use ILS/LMS for tracking materials, resolve records issues, and support data-driven decisions. (10%)
  • Student Employees: Oversee and train student staff, assign work, and provide performance feedback. (7%)
  • Professional development: Participate in committees and learning sessions, stay current with library trends. (6%)
  • Operational culture and policies: Contribute to customer service policies, implement improvements, and maintain records. (6%)

Nonessential & Additional Functions

Qualifications

Education/Experience: High school education with 4 years of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree and 1 year of relevant experience.

Required Skills

  • Technical: Familiarity with course reserves; experience with Alma and Leganto (or similar Library Services Platform); knowledge of catalogs and bibliographic systems; proficiency with Windows/macOS, Word, email, and internet navigation/search.

Working Conditions

Fast-paced library environment with high customer service expectations; regular computer use and physical tasks such as bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting. Nights and weekends required (Tue–Sat). Schedule may change to meet operational needs; position not eligible for staff hybrid work program.
