Oklahoma State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Elementary Music Education with a start date of August 2026. About This Position
Assistant Professor of Elementary Music Education
The Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music at Oklahoma State University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Elementary Music Education with a start date of August 2026. We are looking for a dynamic and collegial music educator to help our faculty prepare K-12 music teachers and contribute to the Greenwood School of Music’s thriving community of musicians and scholars. The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of, or potential for, high-quality teaching at the university level, active scholarship in the field of music education, meaningful service to the department and university, and engagement with the profession at the state, regional, and national levels.
Responsibilities
Duties include teaching undergraduate courses in elementary methods and foundations of music education, leading student teaching seminars, and mentoring preservice teachers during their fieldwork. Additional duties such as directing the Greenwood School of Music Preparatory Academy’s elementary choir may be assigned by the Director of the School of Music based on unit need. The candidate is expected to develop and maintain relationships with elementary music educators at the local, regional, and national levels, engage in service to the unit, college, university and profession, and promote a welcoming learning environment.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate (Ph.D. or D.M.A.) in music education; ABD considered with doctorate completed by start date.
- A minimum of three years of public-school teaching experience with a broad knowledge of pedagogical approaches in Elementary Music Education
- Potential for or established record of scholarly and/or creative activity in music education
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supervising student teachers in a variety of educational settings
- Expertise in general music pedagogy
- An understanding of 21st-century classroom technologies and teaching strategies
- Active involvement in professional organizations (e.g., American Orff-Schulwerk Association, NAfME, state music associations)

The Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music currently has 43 full-time faculty members (of which 31 are tenured or tenure-track), combined with a full-time professional staff of 9. There are approximately 300 students enrolled in degree programs that include the BA, BM, BS, and MM, with programs in music education, performance, music and music industry. Oklahoma State University, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, is housed in the new, state-of-the-art McKnight Performing Arts Center and the Michael and Anne Greenwood School of Music, an all-Steinway institution.
