Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Biller and Coder with specialized experience in medical transportation billing in the state of Virginia. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of medical billing and coding procedures, insurance processes, and healthcare compliance standards. This role is critical to ensuring accurate billing, timely reimbursement, and overall financial efficiency of our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately assign and review ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, DRG, and other applicable codes based on clinical documentation and transport services provided.
- Process and submit clean claims to private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid.
- Review patient information and verify insurance eligibility prior to billing.
- Track and manage claim submissions, denials, rejections, and appeals.
- Follow up on outstanding claims and conduct medical collections in a professional and compliant manner.
- Utilize EMR and EHR systems to maintain accurate patient and billing records.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and dispatch teams to resolve coding and documentation discrepancies.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA.
- Stay current with changes in billing codes, payer policies, and industry regulations.
- Assist with internal and external audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- Certification required: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Biller (CPB), Certified Ambulance Coder (CAC) or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding, with preferable experience in medical transportation or EMS billing in the state of Virginia.
- Strong understanding of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, DRG, and transportation billing codes.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems and medical billing software.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
