Tyndall Engineering & Design is hiring: Architect – Commercial Studio Lead in Ch

Overview

Tyndall Engineering & Design has a long history of providing structural engineering services across the Southeast, with notable work in Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Charleston, SC. Building on this foundation, and alongside our established residential design studio, we have recently launched a dedicated Commercial Architecture Studio to expand our integrated design capabilities.

We are seeking an experienced Architect to lead this effort—someone who not only excels in project delivery but also has the entrepreneurial drive to cultivate client relationships and grow our commercial practice.

Your Role & The Opportunity

As Architect / Studio Lead, you will take ownership of commercial projects from concept through completion, managing design and technical execution while building strong partnerships with clients. This is an opportunity to shape and grow a studio within a firm that already has a trusted regional presence in engineering and residential design.

We are open to someone being located in our Raleigh, Charlotte, or Winston-Salem offices.

Responsibilities

• Lead commercial projects (retail, office, hospitality, adaptive reuse, mixed-use, etc.) through all phases of design and construction.
• Manage client relationships, consultants, and project teams, ensuring high-quality design and delivery.
• Drive business development by identifying, pursuing, and cultivating new commercial project opportunities.
• Oversee project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure timely, successful outcomes.
• Mentor and guide junior architects and designers, fostering a collaborative and supportive studio culture.
• Conduct project meetings, site visits, and client presentations.
• Utilize Revit and other design tools to deliver efficient, high-quality documentation.

Skills + Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in commercial architecture, with proven project leadership.
• Strong technical knowledge of construction methods, codes, and detailing.
• Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and related software.
• Excellent communication, organization, and client relationship skills.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the drive to establish and grow a commercial practice.
